I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I read my receipt from Taco Bell the other day.
I didn’t ask for a senior discount. Well, heck, I’m not even close to being of legal age to request a senior discount. And shouldn’t they “card” for that anyway? To think that the young Hispanic fellow at the drive-thru window just looked at me and assumed…
I recommend they begin a policy to “card hard” when they suspect a customer might not be of the right age to qualify for that kind of savings…

It is bittersweet, Natalie – even when (clearing throat) someone is of the age to receive said discount….

Dianna, but of course you are AGES away from qualifying for that discount! You are about 39, right?

I’d smile and take the discount.

I took it and smiled because that’s just what this goose does. I actually laughed because he was looking at me with such an oddly compassionate face as he handed me the receipt…

Fun post. Snorted milk out my nose. 🙂

Oh Jeff, you’re so comical! Of course, you look so young — you’ll never get an automatic senior discount.

I understand how you feel. When I turned 35, my now ex-husband signed me up for AARP as a joke. I’ve been junk-mail-stalked ever since.
However, my Mom loves being, “legal.” She was never a negotiator or haggler in any way. But when she became a senior, it was as if the gov’t officially endowed her with discount superpowers…lol. As a cashier rings her up, she’ll brightly call out, “senior discount.” If they say they don’t have one or it’s on a different day, she quietly and sadly says, “oh” and makes those big sad eyes that little kids do. Then the cashier feels like the meanest person ever, and gives her a discount.

Gina, your mom has a GREAT perspective! I think I will adopt it just to see how much I start saving. BTW, I wonder how old you have to be to actually qualify? What if they DO card me? 😀
Jun 01, 2013 @ 12:17:46
hmm..I don’t know the qualifying age. But it’s a win-win. You either get a discount or you get carded which means- they refuse to believe that someone with your youthful appearance could possibly be a senior 🙂

Well said !!

I got really nasty to a sales person one time for making this mistake…to this day I’m embarrassed about my reaction. But it came as such a shock!! LOL! I completely understand, Mother Goose. That was a nice savings, though. Hahaha!
