Happy Columbo Day

To this goose, it makes more sense to have a national holiday honoring Detective Columbo than the Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus. Columbo was a heavy duty homicide detective. Columbus was the first wave captain of the New World conquest and invasion.

It’s true that Mother Goose might not be here in this great nation if Columbus had not discovered it. But might it also be true that if the first Europeans to arrive on these shores had celebrated the Native Peoples and their culture instead of slowly obliterating them, our country would have been an even greater place?

However you celebrate this day, (and none come to mind actually….) please remember the work of Lt. Columbo of the Los Angeles Police Department. Remember his wit, his style, his cigar and his good dog. Remember America is a better place because of Columbo.

Thank you, Bunn. I think you were the first person to point out to me that Native Americans are horribly offended by this holiday. Thank you so much. Someday, we’ll get it changed. This is only the beginning!

That was a really good information on this so called holiday. But there is a little more on this person. How he and his crew raped and pilliged the native people and how they introduced probley the worst thing to the native people which was liquor!! The natives didn’t have anything like that bread into there systems like the white people did. Just for your information-they the white people poisoned there water systems. So when they came here they wouldn’t drink the water because most of them didn’t have the common sense that the water here was fine. So what do they drink instead(beer and whiskey)even to there children!! All the tribes the ran into or killed. The ones they left alive they gave them whiskey or beer- there was never anything like that around here. There tolerance levels for whiskey and beer was zero. Then if that didn’t kill them they gave them blankets laced with small pox and if that didn’t do it they slaughtered there native foods then if that didn’t kill them they would make the woman have surgery telling them something else was wrong with them then they would cut there tubes and do experiment on the woman isn’t that just awful. Then they make a holiday after the man that started the demize of the Native Americans!! Now if that isn’t a slap in the face

Dear Allen, I think that it’s time for this country to recognize how politically incorrect this “holiday” really is. Let’s all work together for change! Thanks so much for your heartfelt and heartbreaking comment… It means a lot to me.

You know, when I’m reading your blog at work it really isn’t wise for me to laugh out loud! You really got me going on this one, Mother Goose. I like old Columbo, too. I think I’ll follow your lead here and give him a good nod of thanks. As Americans we have quite a checkered past, don’t we? I don’t think we’re all that squeaky clean now, either, but we try to hide it better!

Debra, Columbo was a good detective, but it doesn’t take any more sense than a goose to realize that celebrating the old Italian explorer isn’t really politically correct anymore. Let’s learn from our past problems and work for peace and unity amongst all Americans. And thanks for dropping by! 🙂
