Mom Liked Her Skirts Full

Oh bring me back to 1956, if you can…

Mom loved the camera, and she taught me much about posing. She was also a pioneer fashionista — loved to make a fashion statement long before the word was invented.

Mom in the spring sunshine in Nimrod, Minnesota

Mother Goose laughed just now to realize that Mom is sitting on a mattress out in the snow — I never looked close enough before today and always thought she was sitting in the actual melting Minnesota snow. (By the way, so many pictures I’ve found have snow in them — I think Minnesota in 1956 was a little bit Narnia, always winter, never Christmas…)

Oh no, wait…Mother Goose was wrong! Here’s Mom in a fern garden!

Her sister's real name is Fern. Believe it or not...

Oh and now we have to leave the fern garden and check the mail! There might be a love letter from Nate!

I wish I had this dress...

And then Vonna and Nate got married. It was a beautiful spring day in April 1957. The bridesmaids had the sweetest full-skirted dresses — I can only guess the color might have been yellow, but Auntie (in the middle) could confirm that for us all.

Of course, Auntie is wearing the open toed shoes....

“Nathan, you may kiss your bride.”

A day to remember.

Omigooseness, Vonna was posing for the camera and missed the kiss…

Your last line is hilarious! But, seriously, this was so much fun looking at these old photos. I’m sure you treasure them.

I wonder if all the crinoline under the skirts was comfortable or was it quite scratchy. Of course, Mom wouldn’t have minded the discomfort — anything for style! Thanks for stopping by, dear Year, and Happy Easter to you and your family.

She was a great “poser” wasn’t she? She was a “looker,” too, Natalie! Just beautiful! These are treasures…and the sitting in the snow on a mattress is really funny. I sometimes wish we still dressed that way. Hard to really imagine navigating through our busy lives with all those petticoats, but they are so pretty! Your mom and dad were a very handsome couple! What a gorgeous couple and your mom was stylish… I’ll take all of those clothes. 😉
