When George Sings Something

We continue our study of love song lyrics tonight with a song that Mother Goose loves truly. I know you can hear George singing this in your heart.

Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me

I don’t want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don’t need no other lover
Something in her style that shows me
I don’t want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

You’re asking me will my love grow
I don’t know, I don’t know
You stick around now it may show
I don’t know, I don’t know

Something in the way she knows
And all i have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me

I don’t want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

The perfect love song, isn’t it? Mother Goose especially loves the bridge where George answers the question, “Will love grow?” Isn’t that truly the question we all want to ask? The beginning of love is always so exciting and romantic — oh the goosebumps, oh the pitter patter of our hearts, oh the longing and the yearning and the wishing when we are in the throes of a new love affair…
In the early days of love, we are intoxicated with one another — just being in the same room as our lover makes us weak in the knees and dizzy like too many glasses of wine.

And then time passes, and we reach a sort of plateau in love. And that’s when we wonder, “Will our love grow?” Or is this it? Is this all there is? I love that George is honest — he doesn’t know, he doesn’t know.

Mother Goose has been married three times. I have asked myself, “Will our love grow?” so many times in the past thirty years. I wish certain people had answered as honestly as George. I stuck around a very long time waiting to see if it would show. I don’t know, I don’t know why sometimes love grows, and sometimes it slows.

But this much I do know, “Something” is one of the best love songs of our time. And something else? I believe and how…

And that’s a blessing…
